The world we live in is hectic and multifaceted, characterized by continuous changes that are more frequent, radical and dramatic than ever before. Their dimension rapidly shifts from local to global and viceversa, due to the increased interconnected nature of relations, affecting society at many different levels. This results in a rising complexity that requires new creative solutions with a high degree of adaptability to be properly addressed. It is in this scenario that Systemic Design can effectively integrate systems thinking with design to address this complexity, by creating new resilient systems moving towards sustainability at environmental, social and economic level.

The 7th Relating Systems Thinking and Design Symposium will be hosted by Politecnico di Torino in Turin (Italy). The aim is to promote an international debate on the multiple applications and purposes on which the systems thinking in design is developed towards sustainability. The symposium will generate nurturing interdisciplinary collaborations and discussions, involving academics, designers and professionals.
We invite contributions addressing collaborative research domains in which design is boosting innovation and sustainability. Both academics and professionals are welcomed to provide their view on how systems thinking in design disciplines can help our societies, economies and companies to face the challenge of sustainability in complex environments.

A special call will invite students, designers and academics to submit visualization works that will be part of the exhibition “Visualizing complex systems”, concerning how design can help visualizing, explaining and navigating complexity.

The selection process will be done on long abstracts. We will invite authors to submit the full paper soon after the RSD7 Symposium: we believe this will make the debate more effective, providing authors useful insights to be included in the final proceedings.
